The false prophet is among us
Beyond the worlds of time and definition
It has countless eyes and an unimaginable reach
It has laid down its intricate design of self destruction and we are all part of it
Some of us, blinded by the smiles it has dealt, walk right to it and gather our assignments
Some of us, blinded by the thoughts it has allowed, sneak around the back and gather our assignments
a different door, a different light, same idea..........

At the risk of sounding repetitive, I don't under the anger.
Regarding the wage/walmart/drug testing thing, arnold vetoed a bill that in his estimation would have hurt the economy. He has good reason to think so. Minimum wage increases have dampening effects on economic growth, and are desirable to slow an economy that is exhibiting unsustainable growth. Interest rate increases are similar. The time to raise minimum wage rates is when things are going well, not when things are going/have gone poorly. Don't kick it when its down. I guess the thing about walmart is a nonissue. It simply comes down to competition. If they can provide a product or service at a lower rate than their competitors, and aren't creating barriers to competition, then they have every right to open a store wherever they please. I know it is very in vogue to hate walmart. "they are assimilating the planet, we hate corporations, nobody is going to tell me what to think, woohoo horay for us." But they are doing nothing overtly wrong. The are just outdoing the competition. It is the nature of our economy. If you don't like walmart, don't shop there. Nobody is forcing you to.
As for the drug testing thing, I have yet to hear a cogent reason for why it is bad. Society in general and schools in particular create boundaries to conduct in the interest of the general safety and wellbeing of the involved participants. Pot is illegal (again, if you don't like that, change the law) and as such is restricted. An analogy is guns or knives in school. They may be perfectly safe in and of themselves. I can bring a gun to school and not shoot anybody. But there are rules that ban guns from campuses because they can be misused. Schools do and should have the right to search people for guns and keep them off campus, because people have no reason for them to be there. If you want to participate in society, you have to play by the rules. If you have a problem with the rules, you can either change them or go participate in a society that has a different set of rules.
As for arnold himself smoking pot, if we take your argument, the response would be "who cares?". It would be as relevant as clinton smoking pot or anyone else. In a way you are taking ammunition out of your own gun by bringing it up. If it truly isn't a big deal, why are you making one of it?
Side request: Please make a defense of smoking pot. You have talked at various times about how ok it is, but never put it all together in a logical flow... I would just like to see it.
And finally, as per the constitutional amendment, I wouldn't worry about it. Constitutional amendments get proposed all the time and hardly any of them make it. It would have to pass two thirds of both the House and Senate, and be approved by the legislatures of 3/4's of the states. And if it for some reason does pass, it would be a case of a group of people not liking a rule and going and changing it, which I think is good.
I guess I don't see a problem per se with having people who have been citizens for 20 years being president. Arnold and republicans aside, do you have a problem with it? What would be the core of your disagreement with it? Is it merely because you disagree with arnold or republicans or are immigrants uniquely incapable of leading the nation?

What's going on in California these days?
Here are some bills that raise the minimum wage to a whopping $7.25; hinder the borg-like assimilation of our planet by Walmart super-multi-plexi stores (requiring a report of local economic impact); and prevent state funded mandatory privacy invasion (drug tests) in high schools.
Sounds like some good ideas right? Not to corporate mouthpiece-idiot-Aryan-Arnold. He vetoed them all.
Fuck you Arnold. Let me count the ways to explore your hypocrisy...exhibit A
Keep in mind this man is the highest ranking official of the fifth* largest economy in the world as you watch this clip:
"Can you believe how much I am in heaven?"
I wonder if he got that same "feeling" when he vetoed these bills, denying the people of CA a living wage. He acts as a corporate mouthpiece, completely disconnected from 'the people'.
Oh yeh... and there is a rumor that the he will run in 2008 for president. I know what you're saying... "Chad! This can't be! The constitution expressly states only natural born citizens can be president". And you would be right. However those crafty republican dogs are hatching an evil scheme to amend the constitution. Don't believe me? Read the fucking bill. Read it. Especially the Orin Hatch comments at the bottom.
FUCK.
Heil Schwarzenegger!

Well, I finally solved my problem, no thanks to Frontpage. Turns out that they have a poor implementation of "hover buttons", similar to javascript mouseovers. Makes the whole thing freak out. I finally had to use my m4D skI11Z and go code my own mouseovers (with some help from some javascript tutorials). That was why the frames weren't working correctly. I still don't know what the deal was with the network/file access thing. In the end, I could have made a better page just coding the HTML in notepad.
I hate you Bill Gates.

I hate microsoft. I particularly hate frontpage. I blew an entire day trying to get their stupid frames to work. I am in the process of blowing another. Something so simple, and yet they somehow made it immensely complex. How can this be? The obviously wonderful feature of "My webs" completely renders any sort of coherent file access and relation and linking pointless. You modify a file. Save. Open it again. It is the old version. Delete it. It is still there. Open frontpage, and start a new "web". It takes you back to the old one, which you previously deleted. How can this be? Start over. Create a new file. Save it. Open file. It isn't there. Close Frontpage. Open it again. There it is. How can this be?
Are there any good open source editors that anybody knows about? I am || this close to deep sixing my pirated XP copy in favor of Linux.
ARGH.

I would like to join... Is this going to replace the blog forum? I thought that the blog was effective, but a BBS lends an certain charm to things...:)
School is going well, though I find myself pulled toward less than interesting research projects. Not horribly bad, just not quite what I was hoping to work on. But overall, things are going well there. I feel like a freshman. In one sense I am, though in a much different arena than the others. I am living in the dorms for the first time, which adds to the feeling of freshman-ness. Last night there was a party replete with loud music and yelling. But it is a lot better (at the moment) than trying to have a place of my own. Apartments are very expensive, and a house would be expensive and a chore to stay ahead of maintenance issues, especially here. I would have to keep my truck warm so I could drive it every day, and I would have to keep the well from freezing and the plumbing from freezing, etc. In addition to the normal maintenance stuff. Here, someone cleans the bathroom and shower, and I can walk just about everywhere I need to go, and I don't have to worry about any of that stuff, and all for the low low price of about 400 bucks a month.
Anyhow, if the migration is in progress to a BBS, I would like to join it.

i took your advice,
and bought the microscope,

I must go quickly... I just thought I would type off a quick response to the last blog. Please don't misconstrue this as brainless loyalty to Big Brother or the Republicans or anything like that. I am just pointing out a few things that I saw and thought about while perusing these things.
First, there was not quite so much drama as you implied when you described her as "infiltrating" the RNC and how the delegates responded "Four more years" to her "Bush lied, people died" statement, during which Bush reportedly froze.
Security has every right to throw her out of the building. The Secret Service unapologetically (and rightly) provides as tight and as strict a security as possible. Obviously, the RNC is a tough place to do that well because of the number of people involved, and there is no way to be sure that the person is not an assasin or something worse. This is not politics. The response would be the same if the party affiliations were reversed.
While she was ranting, at most 20-30 people along the path out of there heard her message. The rest of Madison Square garden couldn't hear the person next to them. An enclosed stadium-sized venue like that gets absolutely deafening when you get people chanting like that. They most likely couldn't even hear most of what Bush was saying, and he was on the PA. They were not responding to her at all... they were just in a crowd repeating a phrase. And before we talk of mindless sheeple repeating phrases, remember that every activist (and even our friend June) repeats phrases to get a point across.
And lastly Bush did not freeze. As per the above, he probably never (probably still doesn't) even knew about her. When you listen to the audio, he is only pausing to wait for the chanting to subside a bit, or bask in its glory or something. Listen to it again. I watched it several times.
I say these things to critically evaluate the video footage. It is valuable to critically evaluate all the ideas we run across. Especially our own. We each (obviously I am at the top of this list) have a tendency to seek to confirm our own beliefs, suspicions, opinions, whatever. This is natural. Because of this, we should really try to see the other side of the argument. What motivates people to think this way? These are at least somewhat rational, intelligent people. They must think the thoughts they think for a reason. What is it? Why do I hold a particular opinion? How have the people I listen to and look up to influenced me to hold this view?
These are just a few of the questions we should each ask. I think that when you think like this and really, really think about this, you will realize that the vast, vast majority of opinions spewed out into the void are misleading, self-serving or worse. Again, a lesson I learned in my freshman writing class.... CRITICALLY EVALUATE YOUR SOURCES.
As much or more than the particular view itself.

I admire this woman.
Ponder for a moment. Just one moment. This thought:
Did your source for news provide this footage to you? Did you receive a fair and balanced report of the convention?.
June and her fellow Code Pink colleagues infiltrated the RNC despite the security. They got past the credentials check, they got past the brain scanners that ensured loyalty to Big Brother.
They made a fucking statement.
Bush just froze.
"Bush lied, people died"... to which the delegates replied...."Four more years"
What the fuck is wrong with these sheeple?
Diagnosis: Stockholm Syndrome.
