Rediscover Communication

back again.
I just had my first guitar lesson for the year. It is good in a way. I end up doing rather stupid stuff, going back to basics because I glossed over the simple things when I started and didn't adequately learn them. I am working on rythmn stuff now. Simple rock and funk rythmns like "one and a two and a three and a..." and crap like that. It surprises me how much I rely on other players. When I have to do it myself, I fall apart, but as soon as the teacher does it and I have someone to follow, I can mimic it perfectly. He said that the whole point is to take away your style and make it so you can play simply what is on the page. Sounds like a horrible, dehumanizing approach to music, but to make technical progress, that is what is necessary. I end up incorporating it back into my playing style later.
anyhow, I basically have the day free. That 1/2 hour lesson was the only thing I had today. What shall I do now? I might go get something to eat. Wander up to Barnes and Noble and look at some books.
